autoritye. And of a fewe which were borne awaye in memorye, this was the firste reason gathered vpon Christes woordes, where it is said in the Gospell. This Cuppe is the newe testament.

MarginaliaThe wordes of consecratyon chaūge not the cup. Ergo neyther do the woordes change the breade corporally into the body.And if (saith he) these wordes do not chaūge neither the cuppe, neither the wine corporally into the new Testament: By like reason it is not agreable that words spoken of the bread, should turne the bread corporally into the body of Christ.

MarginaliaOne bodye cannot fyll mani places at once naturallye.Another reason was this: it is not agreable vnto a naturall bodye be in two places or more at one time, wherfore it must follow of necessitye, that either Christe had not a natural body, or els truely according to the cōmon nature of a body, it can not be present in two places at once muche lesse in manye. That is to saye in heauen and in earthe on the righte hand of his father, and in the sacrament.

MarginaliaThe forms cannot be wythout the subiect.Moreouer a naturall bodye canne not be withoute his forme and shape, conditions and accidentes, like as they also can not be wythoute their subiecte or substaunce. Then for so muche as in the Sacrament there is no qualitye, quantitye, or condition of the bodye of Christe, and finallye no so small apparance of fleshe: who doothe not plainlye perceiue that there is no transubstantiate body of his in the Sacrament? And to reason on the contrary. All the proper conditions, signes and accidēts whatsoeuer they be pertaininge vnto breade, we do see to be presente, in the Sacramente, whiche can not be there withoute the subiect: Therefore we muste of necessitye confesse the breade to be there. He added also many other allegations out of the Doctours. But to be shorte this Taylor the preacher, whō I spake of before, willinge and desiringe as I suppose wyth a good minde to satisfye Lamberte in this matter amongest other whome he tooke to counsell, he also conferred wyth Doctoure Barnes.

Thys manne althoughe he dyd otherwyse fauoure the Gospel, and was an earnest preacher. Firste, for abolishinge the bishop of Romes autoritye, then for subuersion of the monasteries, and that the deuorcement of Quene Katherine, was yet freshe in mennes minds. And nowe the time serued, if he would take it, easilye to remeady all these matters, and pacifye the mindes of them whiche were offended againste him, if onlye in this manne Lambert he would manifest vnto the people, how stoutlye he woulde resiste heretickes, where by he shall bringe to passe not onlye by this new rumor to put awaye all other former rumors as it were with one naile to driue oute another, but also discharge him self of al suspition, in þt he now began to be reported to be a fauourer of new sectes and opinions.
